Portmorseby Cecil pleads guilty to manslaughter of mother-in-law
ABCIn short: Portmorseby Cecil has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after stabbing his 71-year-old mother-in-law 15 times. On day one of the trial, Crown prosecutor Joshua Phillips told the court Mrs Duffy suffered 15 wounds to her body from a blue-handled box cutter. "'I smoked the bitch' … those are the words the defendant spoke to a friend of his to explain what he had just done to his 71-year-old mother-in-law, Sue Duffy," Mr Phillips told the court. Defence barrister Laura Reece told the court there was "no contest and no dispute" to Mr Cecil killing Mrs Duffy. The court heard that at about the same time Mr Cecil had handed himself into Rockhampton Police Station and told the desk clerk, "you guys will be looking for me, I’ve done something stupid".
