A new Tasmanian cabinet, and a new normal of instant accountability for ministers

Intense scrutiny set to follow new cabinet Premier Jeremy Rockliff's new cabinet, announced on Sunday, differs in many ways to the one he announced in April, but is full of ministers that have drawn the ire of the opposition and crossbench in the past. A larger lower house – but not for the government It's been a long road for Mr Rockliff since May 2022, when he suddenly announced the lower house would be restored from 25 seats back up to 35, following a string of minister resignations. Of the 10 additional lower house MPs since the announcement, there are three more Greens, one JLN and four more independents, including the two former JLN MPs and former Labor leader David O'Byrne, plus another Labor MP.
