Fire at Brahmapuram plant in Kochi serves as a grim reminder of potential for similar mishaps

The fire that broke out at the Kochi Corporation’s solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram on Friday, just two days before the second anniversary of the devastating fire on piled-up plastic waste that raged for almost a fortnight, leaving Kochiites breathless, has sent a warning bell about the potential for similar mishaps despite marked improvements in facilities at the plant. However, the fire officer deployed by the biomining company, fire watchers engaged by the Corporation, and fixed firefighting installations help manage them without our service,” said Baiju B., station officer, Thrikkakara fire station.
