Power usage at market complex: Kochi Corporation Council may have to take a call on footing bill

The Hindu

The Kochi Corporation Council may have to decide how to cover the cost of power usage in the vast common utility areas of the newly opened Ernakulam Market Complex. The grey area in the operations of the complex came to light after the Kerala State Electricity Board disconnected the power supply to verandahs and utilities like the sewage treatment plant on Tuesday evening. In a statement, Congress leader Antony Kureethara pointed out that the council had permitted Cochin Smart Mission Limited to execute projects and purchase equipment on the condition that the agency would cover operation and maintenance costs for the first five years. If the Corporation were to bear these expenses, including the power bill for the utility areas in the market, it would have to generate around ₹90 crore over five years, the statement said.
