The International Court of Justice, in a highly anticipated verdict, ruled that there was a need to issue provisional measures against Israel to prevent the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. By 15 : 2 votes, the Court directed that Israel shall, in accordance with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in relation to the Palestinians in Gaza, shall take all measures within its powers to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article 2 of the Convention, in particular killing members of the group causing bodily or mental harm to the members of the group deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring the destruction of the group in whole or in part imposing measures to prevent births within the group. By 16:1 votes, the State of Israel shall take all measures within its power to prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocide in relation to the members of the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip. By 15:2 votes, the State of Israel shall take effective measures to prevent the destruction and ensure the preservation of evidence related to the allegations of acts within the scope of Articles 2 and 3 of the Genocide Convention.
