Crowd watched man drowning in River Ouse ‘and did nothing to help’

Email [email protected] open image in gallery North Yorkshire Police urged people to make use of life rings and other flotation devices In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: “Would you be a bystander or a lifesaver? Fortunately, when we arrived we were able to quickly find a life ring and throw it to the man.” The man was eventually rescued with the help of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the York Rescue Boat and given first aid. Police sergeant Toby Gorwood, who helped at the rescue, said: “It’s always worth making a mental note of life ring locations along your local river in case you ever need to help someone in trouble.
