Mandel’s Mailbag: Bowl game storylines, Florida’s real issue, Michigan recruiting problems?

New York Times

I’ve noticed a significant change in my mid-December college football consumption thus far. And going back to last offseason, the bump one might have expected from Michigan’s 2021 season got blunted by Jim Harbaugh’s very public attempt to get the Minnesota Vikings job, combined with the program’s losing both coordinators from that team, Josh Gattis and Mike Macdonald. — Robert M. I have rarely seen such a massive overreaction to a coach’s first season than I’m seeing from Florida fans right now. Then Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi told a Pittsburgh radio show he heard two schools offered Maye $5 million — but won’t say who. Unless it’s fans like Kansas’ this season, who are thrilled to be going to any bowl, I can’t imagine fans will ever again travel in large numbers to what are effectively NIT games.
