ABCSabra Lane: Seven in 10 high school students failed civics and citizenship tests in 2024. Just 28 per cent of year 10 students are proficient in civics and citizenship, according to the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority. Conor Duffy: Ms Jha says the tests examined basic skills like the different types of government, the way laws are made and basics about the legal system. Conor Duffy: A Senate inquiry into civics education released just weeks ago called for an immediate overhaul of civics education to make it mandatory and nationally consistent. Conor Duffy: In a statement the Federal Education Minister Jason Clare said the government had recently moved to provide more funding for subsidised visits to Canberra by school children.
