Shock, anger, dismay: Breaking down the mood of Rajini fans after decision to quit politics
India TodayOn Monday, Rajinikanth issued a press statement, literally pleading fans not to pressure him into politics. I humbly request you not to hurt me further by organising such events urging me to enter politics," Rajini's January 11 statement read, a day after thousands of fans gathered to protest his decision to quit politics. It was a well organised protest in which fans and members of Rajini Makkal Mandram from across the state participated despite Rajini fan club president VM Sudhakar's diktat not to attend the gathering. Sources close to Rajinikanth claimed that some "external forces" are instigating his fans to create a stir in Tamil Nadu. But while some fans were "instigated", others were genuinely disappointed, especially those who'd waited for 30 years for Rajini's political entry.
