A first year student from Karnataka, pursuing B.Tech course in Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself for a ceiling fan on Wednesday morning. Police said the student, 18-year-old Nagashree S.C. from Hosanagara near Shivamogga, left a note behind saying she wanted to be a teacher, not an engineer. “She wrote that it was better to die than fail to live up to the expectation of her parents and family members,” Rana Bhuyan, in-charge of Amingaon police outpost, told The Hindu. The police from the outpost broke open the door of Nagashree's hostel room about 10:30 am after IIT-G security guards spotted her, from outside the windows, hanging from a ceiling fan.
