
Demanding special package for red gram, farmers to stage bullock cart protest on March 5
The HinduDemanding the State government announce a special package for red gram in the upcoming Budget, the Raita Horata Samiti will stage a bullock cart protest outside the Deputy Commissioners’ office in Kalaburagi city on March 5. APMC former district unit president Avvanna Myakeri said that during the last kharif season, farmers across the district suffered losses due to destruction of standing red gram crop to wilt disease, but the State government came to the farmers’ rescue by providing financial succor to farmers. Red Gram Growers’ Association president Basavaraj Ingin accused the State government of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards red gram crop. Nearly 30% of total cultivated red gram in the region suffered loss this Kharif season, while some of the farmers lost their entire standing crop, Mr. Ingin said.
