Vijay Hazare Trophy: Karnataka hopes to break semifinal jinx as it braces for defending champion Haryana
The HinduKarnataka will be eager to snap its semifinal jinx when it takes on defending champion Haryana in the last-four stage of the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament at the Kotambi Stadium here on Wednesday. Ever since its fourth title win in 2019-20, the semifinal stage has been a major stumbling block for Karnataka, which has lost three semifinal matches in the subsequent four seasons. Before his blip in the nervy five-run quarterfinal win against Baroda, Mayank plundered four centuries and a fifty in five consecutive innings and his batters rallied around him to put up a robust show throughout the tournament. Karnataka’s pace trio of V. Koushik, Abhilash Shetty and Vidyadhar Patil, with 33 wickets between them in the tournament, has backed up the batters, while leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal leads the charts with 16 scalps.
