However, Sindhu kept her eye on the prize and beat China's He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match, thus becoming the first Indian since Sushil Kumar at London 2012 to win two individual Olympic medals. The men's team won India's first Olympic medal in the sport since 1980 while the women missed out on bronze by a whisker in a historic run in Tokyo.
