How one man was inspired to donate blood — and ended up saving his own life

ABC

Wayne Rogerson was inspired to start donating blood by the final act of a mate who donated his organs, saving seven lives. Mr Rogerson's close friend, V8 Supercars driver Ashley Cooper, died when he was critically injured in a crash on the Adelaide street racing circuit in 2008. After that news, Mr Rogerson said he wanted to do "do my bit" and has donated blood 21 times, rarely missing an appointment over eight years. Omicron sidelines large chunk of bookings Red Cross Lifeblood is urging Australians to donate blood as the Omicron variant leads to one in five donation appointments being cancelled every day. People must wait three days after having a COVID-19 vaccine as donors must "be feeling fit and well" to give blood.
