One year of England's World Cup win: The final that had all ingredients of a blockbuster film
India TodayJuly 14 will forever be known as the day England, the nation where the sport of cricket originated, won the 50-over ICC World Cup for the first time in the greatest final ever played in history. The World Cup final between England and New Zealand had all the ingredients of a blockbuster film as not only did the match end in a tie in normal time but even the Super Over which followed couldn't separate the two teams even after a 102 overs. England were declared the winners even though New Zealand matched their score of 15 in the Super Over as ICC's controversial rule had England ahead on boundary count, which came into effect because the two teams matches each other's scores after normal time and the Super Over. Eoin Morgan became the first English captain to lay his hands on the 50-over World Cup trophy while England became the third team after India and Australia to win the title on their home soil. BOUNDARY-COUNT RULE ABOLISHED Arguably the greatest 50-over World Cup final ended with England's triumph but it was the boundary-count rule which hogged all the limelight after the game, leading to a massive uproar in the cricketing fraternity.
