ECI Warns of Suspension, Ban for Politicos Over Hate Speeches
Deccan ChronicleHyderabad: The Election Commission of India, which set up a monitoring wing to track objectionable speeches, is set to temporarily ban candidates and leaders who indulge in hate speeches in their election campaigns. ECI officials said that no party or candidate shall indulge in an activity that may aggravate existing differences, create mutual hatred, or cause tension between different castes and communities, along religious or linguistic lines. All parties and candidates must avoid scrupulously all activities which are “corrupt practices” and offences under the election law, such as bribing of voters, intimidation of voters, impersonation of voters, canvassing within 100 metres of polling stations, holding public meetings during 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of the poll, and the transport and conveyance of voters to and from polling station, the ECI stated. Their love towards Muslims is all fake which even the members of the community realised.” Guidelines under the model code of conduct - No political party or candidate shall permit its or his/her followers to make use of any individual’s land, building, or compound wall without his/her permission for erecting flag staffs, suspending banners, pasting notices or writing slogans. - Workers or sympathisers of one political party shall not create disturbances at public meetings organised by another political party, by putting questions orally or in writing or by distributing leaflets of their own party.
