JD Wetherspoon banks record sales despite axing 24 pubs as thirsty Brits drink 20 per cent more than they did before the pandemic - even though price of a Spoons pint could soar to £11.22 by 2035

JD Wetherspoon boss Sir Tim Martin was today celebrating record sales for his pub chain after axing 24 venues over the last year. JD Wetherspoon boss Sir Tim Martin has called on the government to equalise tax between pub and supermarket drinks as his pub firm records 'record level' sales The increase of like-for-like sales comes as the company has surrendered the lease or sold 26 pubs and opened two other venues 'The gradual recovery in sales and profits, following the pandemic, has continued in the current financial year,' JD Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin said. Sir Tim Martin's announcement came as the pub firm continues to march onwards to it's 1,000 venue target, opening two new venues. This comes after the pub boss chose not to back any political party in this year's general election He previously backed former PM Boris Johnson in his 2019 election campaign The Wetherspoon chief pictured with Nigel Farage in 2019.
