Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi volcano erupts, killing several locals

At least 10 people have died in Indonesia after a series of volcanic eruptions on the remote island of Flores. The eruption at Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki just after midnight on Monday spewed thick brownish ash as high as 2,000 metres into the air and hot ash hit a nearby village. It burned several houses including a convent of Catholic nuns, said Firman Yosef, an official at the Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki monitoring post. The East Flores Regional Disaster Management Agency raised the death toll, reporting that 10 people had lost their lives, buried under collapsed houses. "These victims have been evacuated from the rubble of buildings," Fredy Moat Aeng, the head of the East Flores Regional Disaster Management Agency, said.
