Delhi court defers order on Umar Khalid's bail plea to March 23
India TodayThe Karkardooma court in Delhi once again deferred its decision on the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid on Monday. NORTHEAST DELHI RIOTS On February 23, 2020, communal violence broke out in Delhi's Jafrabad and spread across northeast Delhi over the next four days. ARGUMENTS IN COURT Before deferring its verdict twice, the court reserved its order on Umar Khalid's bail plea after hearing both sides on March 3. While Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad opposed the bail plea by claiming that the 2020 anti-CAA sit-in protests were carefully planned to embarrass the government, senior advocate Trideep Pais argued on Umar Khalid's behalf that the chargesheet filed by the police was fabricated and based on video clips showing a truncated version of one of his speeches.
