ABC

Djuwaḻpada is a new Australian short film that tells the story of Daniel Wilfred, a Yolŋu songman and cultural ambassador for one of the oldest song traditions in the world. Written and directed by Wilfred, the film explores the power of collaboration as he travels with his uncle David from Arnhem Land to Tasmania to share his manikay and keep the tradition alive. During a cross-cultural collaboration with the Australian Art Orchestra, Wilfred shares music with young musicians, performs in nature, and connects with Korean p’ansori singer Bae Il Dong, before a final performance at Arts Centre Melbourne. Djuwaḻpada was recently screened at the Brisbane International Film Festival, NT Travelling Film Festival and Flickerfest Best of Australian Shorts.
