Jenrick only promising migration cap to win Tory leadership votes, suggests Badenoch
The TelegraphAsked on The Daily T podcast about Mr Jenrick’s commitment to a migration cap and whether she backed having one, she said: “I agree that there needs to be a cap, because a cap forms part of a plan. “We have to look at whether the people who are making these promises have actually delivered anything before, or whether they’re just people who are saying what they think they need to say to get elected and then do more of the same. I am somebody who, if I say something, it’s going to happen.” The shadow housing secretary said the “one” reason that Mr Jenrick had received more votes than her was because he had promised to leave the ECHR. “So I’m not making a commitment on day one – I am saying that we need to lower immigration and we need to do about a hundred things, of which the ECHR is one.
