Winners emerge as L.A. council members receive new assignments for 2025
LA TimesLos Angeles City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, pictured at a rally last month in Lincoln Heights, came out a winner in this year’s batch of council committee assignments. She assailed the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, saying efforts to get information from that agency has been “the merry go round from hell.” In recent weeks, Rodriguez criticized Harris-Dawson over his push to hike the city’s hotel minimum wage by 48% over three years, to $30 per hour in 2028. Harris-Dawson, for his part, did not respond directly to Rodriguez’s remarks, saying instead that he looks forward to the “fresh perspectives” that will come from the new committee assignments. — UNSAFE SHELTER: The state agency that oversees workplace safety issued a $563,250 fine to the city of Los Angeles after concluding that the severe mauling of an animal shelter worker by a dog resulted from “significant safety and training lapses.” — BAD DEPUTY: L.A. County will spend $7.5 million to settle a lawsuit on behalf of several girls who were sexually assaulted by a former L.A. County sheriff’s deputy.
