Last Friday, he seemed to knock down the idea of his team making a deadline acquisition when he said simply about his team, which would soon improve to 5-3: “I like where we’re at with this group.” Then came the aftermath of Sunday’s somewhat underwhelming 28-14 victory against the Carolina Panthers, when Payton wondered aloud: “Are we good enough at the other positions around” rookie quarterback Bo Nix?
