Kamala Harris is ahead of Donald Trump, but two big wildcards could up-end the US election race
ABCAs Kamala Harris accepted her party's nomination for president last week, there was a palpable sense of optimism in the 20,000-strong assembled crowd of Democratic supporters. If the American economy hits the skids between now and election day, it's likely that many voters will blame the ruling administration, which would be bad news for Harris. "Donald Trump thinks it's bad for him politically, even though it helps the country," Biden said at the time. "A border deal now would be another gift to the radical left Democrats," Trump said in a statement at the time. If numbers start to swell again, then Trump's campaign policies of finishing his border wall and the biggest mass deportation of immigrants in the country's history will once again take centre stage.
