Letters to the Editor: After the fires, we need to talk about L.A.’s absentee landowners

LA Times

One of many vacant homes owned by Caltrans in El Sereno is seen in 2021. One newly constructed house on my block was purchased by someone who lives in another country and hasn’t set foot there. To the editor: Los Angeles should take the unfinished Oceanwide Plaza skyscrapers in downtown L.A. off the market. Pitkin County began building, and now more than 3,200 people live in these affordable homes. Completing Oceanwide Plaza should take less time than building thousands of individual homes and apartments.
