The Hindu

For the third consecutive day, many low-lying areas were under water and after a causeway had submerged, people were stranded in Pattamangalam, Kandramanikam and Chokkanathapuram villages in Sivaganga district on Sunday. After the Yeriyur Kalungupatti tank received copious inflow, the surplus water started flowing into Manimutharu river. According to a Water Resources department official, the Yeriyur tank, spread on a 227 acres area, is the biggest tank in the region and provides water for irrigation to about 1,000 acres. On Saturday, the fire and rescue service department officials safely rescued nine people, including women from K Siruvanoor panchayat near Kannangudi.
