In numbers: Why BJP is entering Uttar Pradesh's electoral arena from a position of strength

And in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party cornered an impressive vote share of 50 per cent in the state. Sanjay Kumar, director of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and veteran of many election surveys, argues, “With the kind of dominance the BJP has enjoyed in recent years in Uttar Pradesh, both in Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the Opposition will find it very difficult to challenge it.” What is noteworthy, he adds, is that the BJP has kept its dominance intact in both Lok Sabha and assembly elections. Another set of data that clearly establishes how formidable the BJP has become in Uttar Pradesh is related to the vote share of winning parties in all assembly elections since 1952.
