Beware! A new type of phishing scam is targeting iPhone users

India Today

Apple is pretty tight on security. But now, a new phishing scam is targeting iPhones users by tricking them into believing that they are getting a support call directly from Apple. Jody Westby, who is the CEO of a cyber security consulting firm, recently received an automated call on her iPhone warning her that multiple Apple servers containing Apple's user IDs had been compromised and that she needed to call a 1-866 number before using her phone for any other purpose. Perturbed by the call, Westby immediately opened Apple's support page and called up the number listed on the website requesting a customer support executive call her back. The page displayed a "case ID" to help her track the status of inquiry and soon after an executive from the real Apple called her back giving her the reference of the case ID number that she saw in on the Apple support page, security writer Brian Krebs reported.
