Tailgaters, mobile phone users to be revealed in real-time in Queensland warning signs trial
ABCNew signs that flash real-time warnings to drivers urging them to not tailgate are set to be rolled out on Queensland roads by the end of the year. "TMR is trialling behavioural awareness monitors to test the impact of real-time feedback on risky driver behaviour," the spokesperson said. "The behavioural awareness monitors trial aims to encourage safe driving behaviour by providing a positive message when drivers are driving safely and a reminder to drive safely if they are detected doing the wrong thing. Tailgating frequent 'pet peeve' RACQ's road safety and technical manager Joel Tucker said tailgating was a major concern for the motoring body's members. "We think that the new technology could provide a real-time mode of feedback for drivers to show them what tailgating looks like and to help them avoid it in future," he said.
