In Tel Aviv on Thursday night desperate families of the hostages gathered outside Israel’s military headquarters chanting “bring them home now”. Some of Israel’s extreme-right politicians including finance minister Bezalel Smotrich and national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir have also maintained public opposition to any agreement calling it a “surrender” deal. In Tel Aviv, families of the hostages said they felt their loved ones had been “abandoned” in Gaza, and were deeply worried by statements from Israeli ministers like Ben-Gvir slamming negotiations.
