FEMA postpones test of system that allows Trump to message every cellphone in America
Daily MailThe Trump administration plans to send a message to every U.S. cellphone to test a previously unused presidential alert system. President Donald Trump has the ability to send an emergency message to every cellphone in America, and FEMA will test the system on October 3 – making his opponents fear he'll use the power to vent about the Mueller probe or his Supreme Court nominee FEMA can dispatch a 'Presidential Alert,' and it's unlikely Trump himself would send it 'any of us are worried the President will text about the Mueller probe, Russia, or the primaries,' one Twitter user complained. A 2015 federal law limits the use of the Wireless Emergency Alert system to warning the public about natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters and threats to public safety. Twitter liberals complained this week that the president could abuse his power and spam hundreds of millions of wireless devices with political messages One social media user fretted that Trump would text 'd*** shots to the whole country' The test has been scheduled to ensure that the alert system would work in the event of a national emergency. The country's wireless emergency alert system was started in 2012 and has issued over 36,000 alerts for situations such as missing children, extreme weather and natural disasters, but never a presidential directive.
