I know 7-8 languages: Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty backs three-language policy
Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty voiced her support for multilingual learning, stating that it is beneficial to learn as many languages as possible. Addressing the ongoing uproar in Parliament over the three-language policy under the National Education Policy, she said, “I have always believed that one can learn multiple languages, and I myself know 7-8 languages. I always enjoy learning, and children can learn a lot.” However, the policy has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where the two-language formula has long been followed. Congress MP from Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga, Karti Chidambaram, strongly opposed making a third language compulsory, arguing that Tamil Nadu benefits from its current system of English and Tamil. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also criticised Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for its opposition to the three-language policy.
