Celtics playbook series: Daniel Theis is mastering the “11” short roll
New York TimesIn last week’s inaugural Celtics Playbook Series, we looked into how they run their stagger screen “11” play to create opportunities for their wings to get an open look or lane from the perimeter. He’s a little early for Theis because Theis made sure to hold the screen to get contact on Mike Conley, the point guard defending Walker. It also times Theis’ roll to be delayed behind the ball, giving Walker time to drag Gobert away from Theis and ensure the O’Neal has to fly in to tag Theis. Following Theis’ eyes on this play tells the story of how the Celtics knew this was going to unfold as soon as Walker got around that screen.
