Army to permanently deploy 72 Division to guard China border in eastern Ladakh

The Indian Army has decided to raise a new division-level formation, named "72 Infantry Division", to be permanently stationed in eastern Ladakh for long-term military posturing along the Line of Actual Control. The new 72 Infantry Division will be deployed in addition to the 3rd Division, which has been till now guarding the LAC in the entire Ladakh region. A division in the Army typically consists of 10,000 to 15,000 combat troops and 8,000 support elements, led by a Major General-rank officer. INDIA-CHINA BORDER DE-ESCALATION The development came nearly a month after China said it was working with India for joint implementation of resolutions to end the standoff in eastern Ladakh against the backdrop of last year's disengagement along the Demchok and Depsang.
