Severe Tropical Cyclone Zelia hitting WA's Pilbara coast at category five

ABC

Tropical Cyclone Zelia has crossed the coast near Port Hedland in north-west Western Australia just after midday on Friday. Residents around Pardoo Roadhouse to Whim Creek and inland west of Marble Bar have been in lockdown since Thursday after the Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for the area. The intense storm is making landfall just to the east of Port Hedland, the second-largest town in the mining region and the largest bulk export port in the world. Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Luke Huntington said the storm had increased its speed and would hit De Grey, south of Port Hedland.
