Chennai doctors save woman’s limb damaged in assault

The Hindu

A team of doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital salvaged the limb of a 40-year-old woman who suffered near amputation after an assault. The patient was admitted to the RGGGH, and the plastic surgery unit doctors examined her in the emergency ward. Doctors found that the distal hand was held by a soft tissue, and most tendons, two major nerves, and a major blood vessel were completely cut. “All the open injuries were sutured; the distal vascularity was confirmed and appropriate positioning maintained before extubating the patient and shifting her to the intensive care unit,” Dr. Thearni Rajan said.
