Chennai Metro Rail to stop top-up of smartcards and monthly parking passes

The Hindu

Chennai Metro Rail Limited will entirely switch to usage of Singara Chennai Cards or National Common Mobility Cards from April 1, 2025. While CMRL has been selling only Singara Chennai Cards or National Common Mobility Cards in a full-fledged manner for some time now, commuters who had the contactless smartcards were able to use and add money to it for their daily journeys thus far. In a first step, in stations including New Washermanpet, Kaladipet, OTA-Nanganallur Road, Kilpauk, Egmore, Tiruvottiyur Theradi, Shenoy Nagar, Tiruvottiyur, Nandanam, Little Mount and Meenambakkam, commuters cannot top up the contactless smart cards. Discontinuation of monthly parking passes Since there has been a high demand for parking spaces, CMRL has decided to stop issuing monthly passes for parking vehicles from February 1, 2025, the release said.
