Marathas brought under 10% EWS quota in govt jobs, education in Maharashtra
India TodayWeeks after the Supreme Court struck down the Maharashtra law granting quota to the Maratha community in admissions and government jobs, by terming it "unconstitutional", the state government brought the community under the economically weaker section quota. As per the government resolution, the Maratha community members can avail benefits under 10 per cent EWS reservation in government jobs and education. Under this, a person fulfilling the criterion for EWS quota, if doesn't come under any other reservation category, would be eligible for 10 per cent reservation in state government jobs and educational institutions. The GAD order said the Maratha community, which has been classified as a Socially and Economically Backward Class, can get the 10 per cent EWS quota. Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said the state government has decided to support the Maratha community that doesn't come under any reservation category till there's no clarity on their reservation.
