Activists push for end to female genital mutilation
The HinduCan the practice of female genital mutilation ended by 2030 as per the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations? In a first, activists from across the world gathered together at the Women Deliver conference in Vancouver to collectively discuss ways and methods to end genital mutilation and cutting that puts nearly 3.9 million girls at risk every year globally. As many as 12 organisations including Sahiyo, US End FGM/C Network, Equality Now, The Inter-African Committee on Traditional Practices, There is No Limit Foundation and others jointly issued a call to action and said the practice is a violation of the human rights of women and girls and must be ended in all its forms. We need to get more data from all corners," said a survivor and co-founder of Sahiyo, a storytelling organisation focused on ending genital mutilation and cutting in Asian communities.
