Skipping fresh fruit and veg due to the cost of living? Frozen produce can be a cheaper and more nutritious option

ABC

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, many Australians are looking to cut costs at the supermarket. University of South Australia nutrition and food science director Evangeline Mantzioris says frozen food can sometimes be better for you than some products sold as "fresh". "Organic nutrients in fresh produce can decline in transit from paddock to your plate, and even while stored in your fridge," Dr Mantzioris tells the ABC. "Frozen produce can retain most of its vitamins and minerals, sometimes even better than fresh produce that has been stored for several days or weeks." "Eat the fruit and veggies you love eating in a way that you can afford to buy them whether that be fresh, frozen or canned," she says.
