Sleep Quality in Early Middle Age Linked to Faster Brain Ageing
A new study has found that poor sleep quality in early middle age could also be linked to signs of faster brain ageing later in life. The research followed 589 people with an average age of 40 at the start. Participants completed sleep questionnaires focused on six sleep characteristics: short sleep duration, bad sleep quality, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, early morning awakening and daytime sleepiness. Results showed that those in their 40s who struggled to fall or stay asleep showed higher symptoms of brain ageing by the time they were in their late 50s.
