Rajasthan Assembly to open on Jan 31, Congress plans to oppose district dissolution

India Today

The third session of the 16th Rajasthan state assembly is set to begin on January 31, an official statement said. The Congress, the main opposition party, plans to raise concerns about the government's decision to dissolve 9 of the 17 districts formed during the tenure of the previous Ashok Gehlot-led government. The opposition is also expected to question the government’s hesitation to cancel the Sub-Inspectors' recruitment process, which is under scrutiny following serious allegations. The decision to scrap nine districts was based on a report by a committee led by Lalit K Panwar, former chairperson of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission. While a senior cabinet minister, Dr Kirodi Lal Meena, has called for the recruitment to be scrapped, the government told the Rajasthan High Court that it would be premature to cancel the process.
