WHO chief urges China for ‘full access’ to solve origins of COVID-19

The Chief of the World Health Organisation Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has urged Beijing to grant ‘full access’ and offer more information on the origins of COVID-19, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. Tedros said, “We’re pressing China to give full access, and we are asking countries to raise it during their bilateral meetings — to cooperate. Speaking with Financial Times, Tedros said that he travelled to Beijing in order to convince Chinese President Xi Jinping in January 2020 to allow the first Covid-19 mission of WHO experts into the country. Four years after the first case was reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan, there are still no answers for “all those who have paid for this pandemic”, Tedros said the coronavirus crisis had made many governments realise the value of boosting their health systems’ resilience.
