Michelle Berkon, from the group Jews Against the Occupation, told the crowd she defied Israel's "exploitation of our history", and that the Palestinian people had "a right to sanctuary in their own home". "We appreciate the co-operation of attendees at today's rally who were generally well behaved," Operation Commander, Assistant Commissioner Scott Whyte said. Brisbane's rally drew more than 500 people draped in Palestinian flags and colours to the city centre in the afternoon, chanting "free Gaza" and "end the siege".
