Kerala High Court raises concerns over Sunburn festival in landslide-hit Wayanad

India Today

The Kerala High Court has raised serious concerns over the proposed Sunburn music festival scheduled to be held in the landslide-hit district of Wayanad on New Year’s Eve, labelling it “a potential disaster in the making”. The festival, reportedly organised by Boche Bhumiputra Private Limited, owned by businessman Boby Chemmanur, is set to take place on a property flagged by local residents for alleged illegal constructions. Two senior citizens had earlier filed a complaint with the District Disaster Management Authority and the District Collector, raising concerns over the safety and legality of the event’s venue. The court’s scrutiny follows Wayanad’s recent struggles with landslides and heavy rains, raising alarms about the district’s preparedness to handle such a massive influx of visitors.
