Nine fishermen drift into Sri Lankan waters, rescued and brought back to Nagapattinam

Nine fishermen, who had drifted into Sri Lankan waters after their fishing boat’s engine failed, were rescued and returned to Akkaraipettai fishing harbour in Nagapattinam early on Tuesday. On December 29, around 5 a.m., a fishing boat owned by Selvamani, 43, of Nagore Pattinacherry set out from the Akkaraipettai fishing harbour with Palanivel,45, Panneerselvam, 50, both from Vanavan Mahadevi in Mayiladuthurai district, Radha Krishnan, 54, Rajesh, 36, Selvam, 45, Kumar, 39, Elangovan, 35, and Ranjith, 32, from Nayakkar Kuppam. The vessel drifted with the wind and entered Sri Lankan waters near Mullaitivu. The Indian Coast Guard informed their Sri Lankan counterparts about the incident, coordinating efforts to ensure the fishermen’s safety.
