Probes Pending For Years: Allahabad HC Questions UP Police's Economic Offences Wing Over Slackness, Seeks DG's Affidavit
Live LawIn a stern rebuke to the Uttar Pradesh Police's Economic Offences Wing, the Allahabad High Court last week expressed its concerns over the prolonged delay in investigating several cases being handled by the EOW. A bench of Justice Samit Gopal criticised the EOW for its apparent "slackness" in handling critical economic offences, as it noted that in matters being investigated by the EOW, the probes are kept pending for years and years. Noting that the probe in the matter has remained pending for a long time, another bench summoned the Investigating Officer with the case diary and directed that its order be communicated to the DGP, UP. Taking note of the state of affairs and noting that investigations by EOW are kept pending for years in many cases, the Court requested the Government Advocate remain present in Court on the next date.
