"We have to have self-reliance, especially in niche defence technology", says Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi
India TodayAt the Raisina Dialogue 2025, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Indian Navy, addressed the shifting landscape of maritime threats and the necessity of adapting defence architectures to counter both state and non-state actors. “We have to have self-reliance, especially in niche defence technology,” Admiral Tripathi stated, emphasising India’s commitment to strengthening its indigenous capabilities. Admiral Tripathi also praised the Indian government’s push for self-reliance through its Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which has fostered confidence among Indian innovators. “The government’s thrust on self-reliance and Atmanirbharta has brought about a belief in the youth of the country that if they do produce certain niche technologies and offer it to the armed forces, there is greater acceptance and they will not be left hanging for want of orders.” His remarks reinforced the importance of technological evolution and strategic collaborations in ensuring maritime security, as nations navigate the complexities of modern naval warfare.
