AITUC demands welfare board for unorganised transport workers, drivers

Members of All India Trade Union Congress Auto and Transport Workers Association staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding welfare board for the unorganised drivers and transport workers. As drivers were paid very little due to various reasons, the children of the drivers and transport workers should be provided assistance for their education, he added. The heavy fine imposed on auto and taxi drivers by police and Regional Transport Office personnel was a huge burden on them, he noted. As many transport workers die due to accidents and even naturally at a very young age due to the nature of work and lifestyle, the government should provide compensation to the deceased’s family members, Mr. Shanmugarajan said.
