Google stops Russian Android users from making Play Store purchases

The sanctions on Russia have made it difficult, or rather nearly impossible, for foreign companies to continue operating their business there. Google has now banned purchases and billing made through the Play Store or YouTube in Russia, but it is blaming the payment system disruption for that. In a support note on its Android developer website, Google said that it “will be pausing Google Play’s billing system for users in Russia in the coming days” due to the disruption in the country’s payment system. This means that Android and YouTube users in Russia will no longer be able to make Play Store purchases of apps and games, buy subscriptions through Play Store billing, and use in-app purchases. The “payment system disruption” that Google mentioned in the note likely refers to banking restrictions imposed by the US amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
